| Who is ExceLight? ExceLight Communications, Inc., is a company formed from the electro-optic products division of Sumitomo Electric Lightwave. We began business August 1, 2000, and are headquartered in the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina. Return to top Who owns ExceLight? ExceLight is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Industries (SEI). Return to top Why was ExceLight created? ExceLight was created to give us more flexibility in meeting the demands of the North American optical communications market. Our goal is to meet the evolving demands of our target markets with a wider range of products, greater flexibility in meeting customer requirements, improved customer service, and higher levels of integration in our complete product line. Return to top What are your target markets? Telecom, CATV, broadband, and data communications. We will provide active, passive, and data communication solutions for the optical transport layer. Unlike many of our big competitors, our infrastructure allows us to serve not only the biggest OEMs, but smaller players and startups as well. Return to top What is your relationship with Sumitomo in regard to products? Most of our products are Sumitomo manufactured and branded. However, to meet customer demands, we design ExceLight products for manufacturing using the industry's best component solutions available. In essence, ExceLight has greater freedom to meet market needs. We recognize that Sumitomo has world-class research and manufacturing capabilities in optical technology, especially lasers and transceivers. But we also believe that meeting customer demand requires a wider range of capabilities best served by a company with more autonomy.
